SA removed from UK ‘red list’
The UK government says South Africa will be removed from the red list next week Monday.
This after deliberations between the SA and UK officials.
Earlier this month, the UK announced that travellers from Africa and other selected countries will all be considered unvaccinated and will have to test and quarantine for 10 days despite being vaccinated in their home countries.
UK scientists believed South Africa was not transparent about its Covid-19 statistics.
On Thursday, UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced 47 countries will removed from the controversial list that compels strict Covid-19 testing and quarantine rules.
This will allow vaccinated arrivals from those countries to England to bypass quarantine.
This while the UK's Transport secretary Grant Shapps confirmed that Covid-19 vaccines will be recognised from 37 new countries including India, Turkey and Ghana.
Only 7 countries and territories will remain, including Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela.
