SA should focus on healing, says Kieswetter

South African Revenue Service commissioner Edward Kieswetter believes South Africans need to focus on the future and not the country's tragic past.
Kieswetter spoke at the opening of an exhibition dedicated to late struggle veteran Ahmed Kathrada at Constitution Hill on Sunday.
Kieswetter said while its important to hold those responsible for state capture accountable, at some point healing will need to start.
“We must hold those who have perpetrated the state capture to account, but at some point we must focus on healing and building.
“We should spend more time working towards the future as opposed to reflecting on the past.
“Most importantly, if there’s one thing we have learnt is that government on their own is incapable to ever address fully the challenges and to fix South Africa, we need strong social partnerships.”
Ahmed Kathrada would have celebrated his 93rd birthday on Sunday.
Anti-apartheid struggle activist Barbara Hogan also spoke at the event, saying Kathrada's generation valued integrity and authenticity.
“He didn’t use his position of being extremely politically connected to enrich himself.
“We wanted to create an inclusive economy, so we created BEEE and it became a monster because it became the vehicle of entitlement, not the vehicle of enablement which has caused chaos in our society.”
