SA should take responsibility for economy
Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
Finance minister Pravin Gordhan says only South Africa can solve its economic problems.
Gordhan was speaking at the UASA Conference in Boksburg earlier today, saying more and more investors are not spending their money on our shores.
The minister says while South Africa is not immune from the global economic crisis, we also need to take a hard look at ourselves.
Gordhan says we have to inspire confidence in the economy.
"Nobody else is going to come along and say we'll change your economy for you, you can relax. We'll come and restructure what needs to be restructured in your economy, you can sit on the beach. We have to take on this responsibility ourselves," he said.
Gordhan has been making headlines after he was charged with fraud, in a move by the National Prosecuting Authority, deemed by some as a ploy to remove him.
The minister will be delivering his mini-budget next week Wednesday.
