SAA Technical cannot afford to pay workers full salaries - SAA

South African Airways (SAA) Technical cannot afford to pay its employees their full salaries.

On Monday, staff members affiliated to the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) picketed outside the airline’s head office in Kempton Park.
This comes after employees were informed on Friday that they would only receive 25% of their salary.
SAA spokesperson Tladi Tladi says the cash-strapped airline has implemented cuts across the board due to the losses it incurred during the lockdown.

"We are dealing with the effects of Covid-19 where a number of customers to SAA Technical, which includes SAA, have not been able to operate which means they have not been able to pay service providers such as SAA Technical.”
Numsa spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says SAA Technical CEO Adam Voss must be held responsible.
"Covid-19 is not the true cause of SAAT’s financial crisis. It has a long history of looting and corruption, with an incompetent board which has simply turned a blind eye to the rampant theft at the SOE. If SAAT collapses, it will be because the culture of mismanagement and corruption continues to be cancer within the organisation."
