SABC to appear before Parliament amid retrenchment revolt

The board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will appear before the Parliament’s communication committee on Wednesday.
The meeting comes after several employees of the SABC were issued with a Section 189 notices on Tuesday.
Department of Communications spokesperson Mish Molakeng says Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will be part of the meeting.

“Later today the SABC will be presenting before the portfolio committee of communication and the minister will be in attendance.”
On Tuesday, Ndabeni-Abrahams and Deputy Minister Pinky Kekana held an urgent meeting with the SABC board to discuss staff retrenchments.
The SABC is expected to retrench 400 staff members after the broadcaster made a R511 million loss in the last financial year.
