Media Monitoring Africa has welcomed the dismissal of Maroleng from the struggling public broadcaster.

“It’s sent a positive message about effective and transparent governance,” says the organisation’s director William Bird.

The SABC says the decision was taken following the consideration of findings and recommendations of a disciplinary probe.

He’s contract had been terminated with immediate effect on Tuesday.

Its understood that Maroleng faced allegations of irregularities related to procurement.

“It has gone through due process and found guilty by an independent inquiry and the board acted accordingly.

“This was driven by a clear process with management and the board, who acted on their first day of meeting,” says Bird.
