SACP: The country is in crisis
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
There is overwhelming evidence that South Africa is in a deep crisis.
That's according to the South African Communist Party (SACP) in Gauteng, which picketed at National Treasury in Pretoria this morning.
SACP Provincial Secretary Jacob Mamabolo said the fact that South Africa has been downgraded to junk status by two credit rating agencies is evidence of the crisis.
Mamabolo said they also picketed to highlight the issue of social grants.
"The Constitutional Court had to intervene towards the end of last year to make sure that the most vulnerable in our communities are paid their social grants. That is an indication of a country in a deep state of crisis," said Mamabolo.
Trade union federation Cosatu in Gauteng was also in attendance.
Cosatu's Amos Monyela said they are in full support of the SACP's campaign.
"We are going to fight side-by-side with the SACP in terms of fighting corruption, in terms of fighting families who are mobilising around our economy, like the Guptas," said Monyela.
