Safety concerns lead to closure of Miles Stoker Road in Roodepoort
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
The Johannesburg Roads Agency on Friday warned motorists that all three lanes on Miles Stoker Road in Roodepoort would be closed off to traffic due to safety concerns.

On Wednesday, a single lane was closed off on the road due to a massive sinkhole.
Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla says inspections conducted by the JRA revealed that illegal mining had compromised the road’s structure.
“Motorists are advised to avoid Miles Stoker Road and to use Gustav Street and Murray Street when travelling from west to east on Randfontein Road. Motorists can use West Lake and Albertina Sisulu Road when travelling from east to west on Mainreef Road.
“When approaching the south, motorists can use Gustav Street, Murray Street, Roodekrans Street, or Leon Street, and when approaching from the north, motorists can use Albertina Sisulu and West Lake Road to travel east towards Johannesburg, or Murray Street and Gustav Street to travel towards the west.”
Last year, the bridge on Hendrik Potgieter Road in Roodepoort partially collapsed during torrential rain.
The bridge which links Johannesburg to Krugersdorp in Mogale City is set to be completed in October.
