Roodepoort motorists warned of massive sinkhole
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Roodepoort residents have been warned of a massive sinkhole on Miles Stoker Road.
Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla says officers have been deployed to the scene to redirect traffic.
Last year, the bridge on Hendrik Potgieter Road in Roodepoort partially collapsed during torrential rain.
The bridge which links Johannesburg to Krugersdorp in Mogale City is set to be completed in October.
“Miles Stoker Road in Roodepoort that’s travelling towards Dumat Street and the Roodepoort CBD is partially closed off to traffic, and this is due to a sinkhole that has developed. Officials from the Johannesburg Roads Agency are present to assess the extent of the damage, and JMPD officers are also present to assist with diverting traffic,” said Fihla.
“Currently, traffic is being diverted facing oncoming traffic, and motorists are urged to drive with extra caution whilst travelling on that stretch of the road.”
