Sanco and Prophet Bushiri’s church agree to ceasefire

The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) and the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church have agreed to a cessation of hostilities.

The agreement comes after the two parties met under the auspices of the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL) Rights Commission.
The commission’s chairperson Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva says an agreement has finally been reached.

"Sanco has agreed to cease from disturbing the church and the church has agreed - because Sanco was saying there's a threats from the church that they are going to die or whatever - the church has agreed to send out a message to all their members through social media that all aggression against sanco should cease."
Mkhwanazi-Xaluva says the commission is in negotiation with the church to support the families of December’s apparent stampede.
Three women were killed at the church during a service at the Pretoria showgrounds in December.
Nine other congregants were injured.
"We have committed to doing a follow up briefing to arrange where further announcements will be made. We are also allowing Sanco to consult and update their constituency,” saysMkhwanazi-Xaluva, while at the same time urging all municipalities to enforce all bylaws in order to prevent a similar incident from happening.
"We know for a fact that a lot of churches are operating in building that have no plan in terms of fire, no exit plans in terms of a stampede. In all sorts of buildings."
