SANDF deploys more teams to assist with aftermath of Cyclone Idai

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is deploying a group of 30 soldiers from its medical team to assist in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
This follows a deadly Cyclone Idai which swept through the three southern African countries, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The death toll in the three countries is headed towards 400 with an estimated 1.7 million people affected by the storm.
SANDF spokesperson Mafi Mgobozi says they have deployed two helicopters to Mozambique.
"The number of the medical team is about 15 people which we are sending and today (Friday) again we are sending more medical teams of 15 people to Mozambique.
"Those people are going with equipment which is going to help the Mozambique situation.”
Mgobozi says a medical team of about 25 personnel has also been sent to Malawi to assist with rescue operations in that country.
"Another country which we are aware, we have about 25 people part of the medical team which is assisting is Malawi.
"Our team are there for a week, assisting the country.
Meanwhile, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) says they are also assisting with search-and-rescue operations in the three countries following the deadly cyclone.
The organisation’s James Kambaki says they are also providing medical supplies, as well as distributing non-food items such as blankets, clothes, and crockery.
MSF is also helping to provide water and sanitation to the flood-stricken areas.
"I am asking people to donate to MSF and visit www.msf.org.za and click donate.
"If you possibly have the skills to work in flood contexts then please contact us and then we can give you an application for that.”
