A South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldier is appearing in the Mapulaneng Magistrate's Court for the alleged murder of his son.
Bushbuckridge police spokesperson Ndlovukazi Mashele said the 43-year-old soldier handed himself over to police on Sunday.
"He handed himself over to police after he assaulted and killed his 20-year-old son who is in Grade 11," Mashele said.
Mashele said the motive of the murder was not yet clear, but it is alleged the son stole R200 from his mother.
"It is alleged the son stole R200 from the mother and she called the father to come discipline the son," Mashele said.
