Sanef: Nzima was a brave photographer

Forum (Sanef) has expressed sadness at the passing of veteran photojournalist,
Sam Nzima.
Nzima passed away on Saturday in hospital at Nelspruit in Mpumalanga at the age of 83 after battling with a short illness.
"We are sending our condolences to the family, colleagues and everybody that knew him very well,” says Sanef chairperson Mahlatse Mahlase.
Nzima is best-known for the iconic photo of the dying Hector Pieterson during the 1976 Soweto uprisings.

Mahlase says image that Nzima took on that day in Soweto pushed the world take notice of the oppression Africans suffered under the apartheid regime.
"We are saying this is the moment to remember how many brave journalist risked so much to tell stories of the brutal regime. Nzima was one of them."
