SanParks urges Cape Town residents to stay away from fire-ravaged areas

The South African National Parks (SanParks) has urged Cape Town residents to stay away from areas that have been ravaged by a massive fire.

The areas include Newlands Forest, Groote Schuur Estate, the Rhodes Memorial, Devil's Peak, Table Mountain Road, Vredehoek and Deer Park.
SanParks spokesperson Rey Thakhuli says rangers had their hands full at entrances on Monday morning trying to prevent park users from continuing with their daily activities.
“As hundreds of firefighters work to bring the flames under control, people are being asked to stay away from Table Mountain National Park.

"SanParks rangers had their hands full at their entrances this morning to prevent users from continuing their normal daily activities in Table Mountain National Park.”
More than 400 hectares of land have been damaged since the fire began on Sunday.
“The staff of the park are working hard to put out the fire and that most of the resources have been set on fire,” adds Thakhuli.
Police have since arrested a man whom they believe could be linked with the fires.
Law enforcement officials are still looking for two other suspects.
