Santaco: City of Cape Town denying commuters taxi services
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) has intensified its spat with the City of Cape Town, saying it is denying commuters the services of the taxi industry.

Taxi organisations around the Cape Peninsula are set to embark on a mass stay-away following violent clashes between taxi operators and law enforcement this week.
Santaco met with other taxi associations in Khayelitsha on Thursday to discuss the impoundment of taxis in the city.
The council’s secretary-general Baki Qumbu believes that the safest solution is for the industry to withdraw its services.
"We are in support of the taxi services withdrawal for a few days. it would be unprofessional and put the industry under duress if they continued to operate as if nothing happened.
"The laws formulated by the city are very unfair. Any offence a car is being impounded. We encourage that negotiations should take place to guide our structures at a provincial level," Qumbu said.
