Santaco, Mbalula ‘committed’ to finding solutions as talks continue
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) has agreed to allow Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula more time to discuss the taxi industry's demands with cabinet
In a joint statement released on Friday, the parties say they are committed to lasting solutions.
The statement comes after various meetings between the two parties.
The two reached a deadlock last month when Santaco rejected the government’s R1.1 billion relief fund, instead demanding to be paid R20 000 per taxi per month.

Santaco in Gauteng subsequently embarked on a one-day shutdown.
Santaco's Bafana Magagula said they agreed to stop lashing out at each other publicly and resolve the issues faced by the industry.
"Santaco will nominate a high-powered delegation to engage with the director-general of the Department of Transport on the conditionalities and modalities related to the proposed relief fund and other matters still outstanding to be resolved."
