Santaco: Taxis won’t take part in ‘national shutdown’
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) has announced that it will not participate in the national shutdown planned for Monday.
The announcement follows a meeting between Santaco and the EFF.
In a short statement on Thursday the taxi council says that Monday will be a normal operating day across the country.
“Following the meeting between Santaco and the leadership of the EFF, you are hereby advised that Santaco has decided that the taxi industry will not participate in the planned shutdown.
“We urge all provinces to inform their respective regions and taxi associations that the 20th of March 2023, will be a normal operating day for the taxi industry,” the council said.
Scores of people are expected to take to the streets to protest against load shedding, and other socio-economic issues, alongside the EFF.
They will also call on President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down.
