According to the police's Mavela Masondo, the SAPS has put security measures in place to ensure that all patrons attending these events are and feel safe.

"There is continuous coordination and cooperation within law enforcement agencies and all the necessary key role players will be hard at work prior, during and after the events," says Masondo.

"Police visibility will be increased through focus deployment at strategic places in and around the venues."

He adds: "Through our crime intelligence, we have identified hotspots and potentially volatile areas that will be monitored throughout the events. We have plans to deal decisively with those who will be attending these events for wrong intentions."

Masondo notes: "As much as we have put plans in place to ensure that these events become crime-free, the cooperation and assistance from the attendees is of paramount importance for us to achieve our mission. We appeal and urge the public to immediately report any suspicious or criminal activity."

The police have advised the public to be vigilant and cautious, not to expose their valuables like cellular phones and wallets, or leave valuables, like laptops, exposed in cars and to ensure that cars are properly locked.

"Attendees are expected to act responsibly, observe the laws of the country and to fully cooperate with all law enforcement agencies," notes Masondo.
