SA's ports of entry prepare for festive rush

The Department of Home Affairs says border law enforcement have confirmed their readiness to handle volumes of travelers and goods at all ports of entry.

Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi says his department will deploy almost 400 additional officials at selected ports from Wednesday to assist with the delivery of immigration services and offer technical support at the borders.


"Most of these officials will be posted at the Beit Bridge port of entry with Zimbabwe, Lebombo with Mozambique, Maseru Bridge with Lesotho, and the Ficksburg port of entry also with Lesotho," says Motsoaledi.

He adds the South African Police Services has increased police officials with an additional 80 while SARS. Us TOMS is expected to deploy an 86 customs officials at selected ports of entry.


Motsoaledi was briefing the media at the department’s head offices in Pretoria on Sunday morning.


"We implore all travellers leaving and entering South Africa to ensure their documents are in order to avoid delays at the ports," says Motsoaledi.
