SAWS predicts stormy start to weekend

The South African Weather Service has issued an alert for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours in Limpopo, North West, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and parts of Free State.
Forecaster Ishmael Moyo says there is a 60% chance of thundershowers from Friday until Sunday.
“Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Gauteng and North west provinces will be isolated but scatted showers and thundershowers are expected over the eastern parts of North West and Free State and most of the Mpumalanga province, the entire Gauteng and southern parts of the Limpopo province over these areas we are expecting a 60% chance of showers and thundershowers and we also given an alert yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms this is mainly from lunch time going into the evening.”
Moyo adds that the weekend rains will result in heavy downpours and strong winds in the interior of the country.
“A Yellow Level 2 Warning for Severe Thunderstorms with heavy downpours, large hail and damaging winds that could cause localized flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas, and bridges, as well as localized damages to property expected over the south-western parts of Limpopo, and the Mpumalanga Highveld, as well as over the central and eastern parts of North West and north-eastern parts of the Free State.”
