The party outlined its plenary outcomes following a central executive committee meeting.
General-secretary Blade Nzimande says the South African scientists who detected the virus have helped and provided leadership to the entire world in identifying the variant.
“The CEC denounces governments that have shut down borders to South Africa as if the Omicron variant originated in South Africa. The spread of the new variant it is global, and it may have come from anywhere in the world including from outside Africa, this assumption that this came from the African continent it is wrong.
“The best description of what advanced countries are doing is to think that they will have enough vaccines, vaccinate their populations and leave the developing nations to see for itself and hope to defeat Covid-19 and hope to close their borders, that won’t work.”
Nzimande has also encouraged the public to vaccinate against Covid-19.
