Schoeman grabs triathlon bronze, brings SA medal tally to eight

South African Henri Schoeman claimed bronze in a time of 1 hour 45 minutes 43 seconds in the men's Triathlon at the Rio Olympics on Thursday.

He finished just ahead of South African triathlete Richard Murray (1:45:50) who claimed fourth place.


Team SA has bagged eight medals at the Rio Olympics so far and seems well on its way to hit Sascoc's target of 10 medals.


Athlete Wayde van Niekerk won Team SA's only gold in the 400m sprint. He set a new world record with a time of 43.03s.


Swimmer Chad le Clos raked in two medals - winning silver in both the 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly.


Cameron van der Burgh won South Africa's first medal at the Rio Olympics taking silver in the 100m breaststroke.


Long jumper Luvo Manyonga also won silver. 


Men's pairs rowing team Lawrence Brittain and Shaun Keeling took silver. 


The Blitzboks finished third in the Sevens, winning bronze.


Athlete Caster Semenya is set to run the 800m on Saturday while Sunette Viljoen participates in the women's javelin on Thursday night (Friday morning, SA time).
