Scrapping of e-tolls politically motivated, says ActionSA

ActionSA in Gauteng says Premier Panyaza Lesufi's decision to scrap e-tolls in the province is solely motivated by the upcoming general elections.
Lesufi assured Gauteng residents that the unpopular e-toll system would be scrapped off by the end of March, during his state of the province address.
South Africans are set to head to the polls on the 29th of May 2024.
ActionSA's Funzi Ngobeni says the scrapping of the e-tolls was long overdue.
"It is ridiculous that Lesufi wants to take credit for this as a victory when in fact it is a defeat
for his party, the ANC, that set up the whole e-toll system without sufficient engagement
with road users.
"It is tragic that it took this long for it to be scrapped.
"Over a year has passed since the premier's inaugural State of the Province Address, where he promised to begin the process of delinking and switching off e-tolls.”
