Search for Soweto boy (6) enters eight day

Johannesburg Emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says the search and rescue operation for a 6-year-old boy who fell down an open manhole in Soweto continues.

Khayalethu Magadla was playing with friends in Dlamini Park, Soweto, on Sunday last week when he slipped into the sewer system.
Joburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says the teams have covered more than five manholes in an effort to locate Khaya.
"We are continuing the search from the pipeline where the boy fell on last Sunday, just to remove any uncertainty along the line. We are moving swiftly towards the sleep chamber which is situated in Olifantsfontein. So far, we have already covered five or so manholes, so we will be moving to the next manhole throughout the day today to see whether we cannot be able to locate young Khayalethu.
"We are also deploying our robots which assist us in getting a 360 view of the pipeline itself , in providing good footage, which can be used when deployed technicians using the external air supply as there is a lot of methane in the pipelines. We just need to make sure that we take necessary measures while working along the pipeline."
