A search in underway for a 3 year-old girl who was swept away in flood water from the Jukskei River in Alexandra yesterday.

Everlate fell from her father's arms when they climbed a tree to escape the water and was then swept away.

Councillor Werner Smit says the City of Johannesburg's Emergency Management Services' Search and Rescue is looking for Everlate with the help of the police.
"There are also sniffer dogs from SAPS searching along the river bank," says Smit.
Acting Gauteng Premier Paul Mashatile is in Alexandra where he has spoken with Everlate's parents.
At least 200 people have been left destitute.
"Many of the shacks here are gone. The problem with this area is that it's on what we call the flood line. This is an informal settlement and it is quite clear that the people who are here will have to be removed," says Mashatile.
