Security agencies have been deployed to Fort Hare University in the Eastern Cape to ensure the safety of those attending the university's centenary celebrations on Friday.
President Jacob Zuma and Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe are expected to attend the celebrations.
This comes after violence erupted Wednesday night, when students set fire to some of the university's buildings.

Government spokesperson Donald Liphoko said the celebrations would continue.
"We've made sure that we have adequate security agencies on the ground... also to focus on making sure it remains an open celebration that all South Africans can participate in," Liphoko said.
More than 30 students have been arrested since Wednesday.
