Security Agencies investigate death threat against DG in the Presidency
Updated | By JacarandaFM News / Release
Security Agency officials are investigating a serious death
threat made against Phindile Baleni, the Director General (DG) in the
Presidency.
She is said to have received the threat several days ago, in the form of a bullet found with a letter in her letterbox at home.
Spokesperson in the presidency, Vincent Magwenya, says the first demand typed out in the letter is that Baleni stops the investigation into the killing of Babita Deokaran.
She was a senior official in the Gauteng Department of Health who was shot in front of her house in Mondeor in August last year after she had blown the whistle on suspected fraud.
Six suspects were arrested and are waiting to go on trial in the High Court.
However, Deokaran’s family have expressed their concern that those behind the killing have not yet been arrested.
Magwenya says the letter to the DG also demands that she advises President Cyril Ramaphosa not to proceed with the findings of the State Capture Commission.
The first four reports of the Commission has named various high profile politicians, including former president Jacob Zuma.
The final part of the report is expected to be handed over to the Presidency by the 15th of June 2022.
