The local magistrate’s court released him on R1000 bail on Wednesday.

The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) provincial spokesperson Phaladi Shuping says the state did not oppose bail.

He says the 57-year-old security guard will re-appear in the same court on 9 June.

The accused allegedly shot and killed Siegal on Monday during the Mangaung protests which rocked parts of Bloemfontein.

The scholar of the Heide Primary School in Heidedal passed away on the scene.

It's alleged that a group of protesters wanted to enter a warehouse and the security guard fired a shot at them in an attempt to scare them away, hitting Siegal.

He appeared for the first time on Wednesday since his arrest on Monday.

Residents in Bloemfontein have been complaining about the lack of service delivery and corruption, amongst others.

The Mangaung Shutdown protest has completely shut down the city with businesses and schools brought to a halt.
