Updated | By Neo Leeuw
A senior Eastern Cape police officer has been shot and killed at her home in Elliotdale, King William's Town police said on Wednesday.

Lt-Col Nomalizo Dukumbane, 53, was shot from behind on the doorstep of her home as she returned from work at 7.40pm on Tuesday, Brigadier Marinda Mills said.
She died on the scene. People in the area saw two people running away. The motive for the murder was not known.
Dukumbane served in the SA Police Service for more than 30 years, and was the Elliotdale station commander from 2009, Mills said.
National police commissioner Riah Phiyega and provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Celiwe Binta sent their condolences to Dukumbane's family.
"No stone will be left unturned in our efforts to establish who was involved and bring them to book," Phiyega said.
