Serial killer confession leads to trial-within-a-trial
Updated | By Masechaba Sefularo
A trial-within-a-trial began in the case of alleged serial killer Sifiso Mkhwanazi on Tuesday.

It will consider the admissibility of an alleged confession made by the accused to his father.
Mkhwanazi's father again appeared in the Palm Ridge High Court on Tuesday to continue giving testimony.
Twenty-two-year-old Mkhwanazi is charged with six counts of murder after six partially decomposed bodies of sex workers were found at his father’s place of business nearly two years ago.
Mkhwanazi allegedly confessed to the murders during a conversation with his father Mark Khumalo, who is the state’s second witness.
While the state has argued the confession was made freely and voluntarily, defence lawyer Vuyo Maqetuka rebutted, saying the accused was unduly influenced as a police officer was present.
Maqetuka argued that the confession deals with the accused’s main contention, which is the state’s allegation that the murders were premeditated
The trial continues.
