Seven arrested for violent Limpopo protest

Seven people have been arrested during a violent community protest in Motetema outside Groblersdal in Limpopo.

The two-day protest was reportedly sparked by outrage over high water bills from the Sekhukhune District Municipality.

Limpopo police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says the suspects were arrested on Saturday.
“Police in Motetema outside Groblersdal have arrested seven suspects, aged between 24 and 45 for attempted murder, public violence, tempering with essential infrastructure and malicious damage to property.
“The community members went on rampage and barricaded the road between Motetema and Groblersdal with burning tyres, stones and so forth and ending up damaging motor vehicles.”
The suspects are expected to appear in the Groblersdal Magistrate's court on Monday.
