Seven charged with rape of eight women in Krugersdorp

Seven men have been charged with the gang rape and robbery of eight women in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg.
The men were part of a group of 60 who appeared in the local magistrate’s court on Wednesday morning following their arrest in an anti-crime blitz a week ago.
They have also been charged with robbery with aggravated circumstances and contravention of the Immigration Act.
Gauteng NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says the identification parade was done on Tuesday, where the victims identified 14 suspects.
"The prosecutor had to go through the context of the docket and satisfy herself that there is prima facie evidence, hence all 14 accused from the 64 accused that appeared in court are now facing charges ranging from multiple counts of rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances and sexual assault.”
Mjonondwane says seven more suspects are expected to appear in court on Thursday.
"Today we had seven accused appearing and there will be seven more accused appearing on Thursday, we are awaiting for them to appear first at Randfontein Magistrate’s Court, where they are facing charges related to contravention of Immigration Act.
"We cannot rule out the possibility of more people being charged and added to the docket as investigations are ongoing, we will be directed by the direction that the investigation is taking.
