Thirteen people have been injured in a gas explosion at a scrapyard in the inner city of Johannesburg.

The scrapyard on Siemert Road in Doornfontein had been using gas when it caught alight and exploded.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha says two of the injured are in a critical condition.
"When our paramedics arrived on the scene they found that two of the injured people were in a critical condition, nine sustained serious injuries and two escaped with minor injuries," Botha says.
Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says some of the injured were treated on the scene and others have been transported to nearby hospital for further medical care.
