The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of severe thunderstorms with heavy rains on Tuesday afternoon over large parts of the interior of the country.
The Yellow Level 2 warning of severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, strong winds and possible small hail was issued for the whole of Gauteng, the western and central Highveld of Mpumalanga, the south-western parts of Limpopo, the eastern parts of the Free State and eastern parts of the North West.
SAWS forecaster, Lehlohonolo Thobela says flash floods should be expected on susceptible roads, low-lying areas and over bridges.
Meanwhile, a heatwave has hit other parts, with extremely high temperatures over the western parts of North West, the western and central parts of the Free State and the eastern parts of the Northern Cape.
Thobela says the heatwave is expected to last until Saturday.
