Shaun Abrahams personally received Zuma's representations

The National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Shaun Abrahams is studying the representations made by President Jacob Zuma on why he should not face prosecution for multiple criminal charges.

Abrahams gave Zuma until Wednesday to motivate why the charges should not be reinstated.


The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA), Luvuyo Mfaku, says Abrahams was in his office when the President's legal team delivered the documentation in order to meet their deadline.


"The legal representatives of the president submitted the representation to the national director just after 21:00. The national director works till late, more often than not and he was advised the legal representatives that he will meet them at the office."

Abrahams is set to meet the prosecuting team to decide on the next step.


"The national director will engage the prosecuting team and advise on the way forward after meeting the prosecuting team."


The Supreme Court of Appeal ruled last year that the decision taken in 2009 to drop 783 counts of fraud, corruption, money laundering and racketeering charges against the president was irrational.
