The two bodies were discovered in a storage shelter at the reserve on Monday morning.

City of Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says the two employees, who worked for a private security company, had locked themselves in a shelter with an open fire drum during the blistering cold night.

"The guards were on night shift and the supervisor was in the process of posting the day shift

team when he became aware of the two missing guards.

"It is suspected that both died in their sleep through smoke inhalation," says Mashigo.

He adds no foul play is suspected.

"A case has been reported to the South African Police Service and the Tshwane Metro Police Department for a proper investigation to be conducted.

"The city wishes to convey its heartfelt condolences to the deceased families, friends and colleagues."

Earlier in the week the South African Weather Service issued a warning to Gauteng residents to brace themselves for a cold week, with temperatures in some parts of the province dropping to single digits.
