Cape Town Metro Police arrested the unlicensed taxi driver in Belhar in Cape Town last week.

The City of Cape Town says the driver's vehicle has been impounded.

In a statement it confirms 14 of the passengers were standing.

Take a look at the video posted by the City of Cape Town:

"Officers on point duty at the intersection of Chestnut Way and Erica Drive in Belhar spotted the driver committing several violations of the National Road Traffic Act. When they stopped the vehicle, they found 32 passengers in the taxi, 14 of them standing."

It says the driver was operating in contravention of his operating licence, which resulted in the automatic impoundment of the vehicle and his arrest.

"This is an absolutely shocking incident. There is no excuse for this type of behaviour. I shudder to think of the consequences if that vehicle had to be in a collision," says the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security and Social Services, JP Smith.
