A group of people continued to enthusiastically sing freedom songs in front of former president Nelson Mandela's home in Vilakazi Street, Soweto, early on Saturday morning.
The small group was not discouraged by scores of people leaving the area.
Tonny Sena, 33, (SUBS: CORR) led the group as it marched up and down the street dancing and singing.
He arrived before 5pm on Friday and had been singing since.
"I am not going anywhere until [President] Jacob Zuma says so."
Sena said they were singing to celebrate Mandela and what he had achieved for South Africa.
"He was able to unite all South Africans regardless of their race. He also united us with other African countries. Today a brother from Zimbabwe, Nigeria, or any of the African countries, is my brother."
He said he would miss Madiba for his love of peace.
"I remember after he was released from jail he did a speech asking people to throw away their weapons," Sena said.
People who had filled the street were leaving.
Most played freedom songs in their cars as they drove away. Earlier, the street and a restaurant in it were packed with people.
