"Police are maintaining a high presence outside the school in Vereeniging," says police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini. "At this stage we haven't seen any violence, but the situation can be described as tense."
The protesters, many belonging to the EFF and ANC, claim the school is discriminating against certain learners based on their language.

It overturned a decision by the Gauteng Department of Education, ordering it to place the learners at neighbouring shools.
The department has indicated that it will appeal the ruling.
