Six men in court in Brits for hijacking minibus taxi

Six men accused of hijacking a minibus taxi appeared in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Their case was postponed to July 1 for a formal bail application.


Kabelo Moyo, 26, Simon Rampa, 30, Freddy Matlhako, 23, Thabang Rasemate, 23, Gideon Matloga , 24, and Sello Mathibe , 31, allegedly hijacked a minibus taxi in Majakaneng near Brits on June 6.


They were arrested in Buffelspoort near Brits a few hours after they allegedly hijacked the taxi.


One of the men allegedly hired the hijacked minibus from the driver, and asked him to go to Brits to collect five other men. On the way, they directed him to nearby bushes were they allegedly threatened him with knives and ordered him out of the minibus, before driving off with it.


The driver reported the incident at the Mooinooi police station. A search operation was conducted and the minibus was found parked at Buffelspoort.


At the time of the hijacking, two of the suspects were out on bail in a case where they face charges of possessing explosives.
