Six police officers in court for business robbery

North West Police have arrested six police officers and two collaborators for a business robbery in Mmakau.

It’s alleged that the accused used a marked police car when they assaulted and robbed a local tern owner of R60 000 on Friday, 15 December 2023.


Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says the victim was later taken to Mothotlung graveyard where he was further assaulted.


"The police officers are attached to Pretoria Public Order Police (POP), Tshwane District Crime Intelligence and Rietgat Visible Policing respectively.


"Investigations into the cases continue and the suspects are likely to face additional charges including a business robbery allegedly committed in Hebron."


The accused are Sgt Matlala Letsoko, Sgt Lesiba Kgopa, Const Sejameriri Mamphekgo, Const Croesus Chirwa, Const Joy Makotla, Sgt Masilo  Mononyane, Emmanuel Lorekang and Itumeleng Malebetsane.

 

They appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on the 21st of December 2023 on charges of business robbery, kidnapping and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.


They were all released on bail of R2 000.00 each and the case was postponed to 28 February 2024.
