Some students apologised says Braamfontein business owner

One of the owners of popular jazz club the Orbit says their main concern was the safety of their patrons when protest action turned violent in Braamfontein last night.

Nine people have been arrested when a group of people barricaded roads and set two vehicles alight.
An SABC vehicle was set alight set alight just outside the club.
Police fired rubber bullets and teargas to disperse the protesters, who were apparently unhappy over a curfew imposed by Wits.
A partner of The Orbit, Kevin Naidoo, says they tried to keep everyone calm.
"We did put out the fire on the vehicle ourselves. Emergency services could not make it through at the time. We also took in a lot of students, students injured by rubber bullets. Some of them took shelter in our store. A lot of students, who declared themselves students, apologised," he said.
