Soweto looting arrests rises to 18

Seven people are set to appear in a Soweto court on Monday on charges of possession of stolen property.

The latest arrests come days after police were deployed to after residents started looting shops belonging to foreign nationals on Wednesday night.
The suspects, from Dobsonville and Protea Glen in the south of Johannesburg, are facing charges of public violence and possession of stolen property.

"The police are continuing monitoring the situation and raiding those identified as the one who were involved in the looting of the foreign national shops," says Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele.
This brings the total number of arrested up to eighteen.
