Soweto roads closed as final rallies are held before election day

The JMPD's Wayne Minnaar says officers will be deployed around Soweto to manage traffic flows.

As political parties enter the final push for votes, traffic in and around Soweto will be significantly affected by this weekend's final election rallies. 


The DA will be holding its last rally before South Africans head to the polls in Dobsonville on Saturday.

The EFF will be at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday, while the ANC will be at Ellispark on Sunday. 


The JMPD's Wayne Minnaar says officers will be deployed around Soweto to manage traffic flows. 


The following streets will be affected by road closures: Elias Motsoaledi , Kopanong street, Luthuli street, Johnas Mohabi street, Mookie street, Klipsruitvalley road, and the intersection of the Soweto Highway and the N17.  Traffic to and from Joe Slovo drive will also be monitored. 


"Motorists are advised to drive with extra caution as traffic management will only be in place until 6pm," says Minnaar.
