Soweto teacher being probed over pupil's suicide

The Department of Education in Gauteng has confirmed the death of a pupil from PJ Simelane Secondary School in Soweto.
The Grade 12 pupil took his own life after he was allegedly mocked by a teacher over his sexuality.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona says the department is investigating allegations surrounding the incident.
“As a department we can confirm that there is an incident whereby a student from PJ Simelane Secondary School committed suicide.
“We have since launch the investigation as a department surrounding the circumstances regarding this incident which occurred. They are allegations which we really need to continue to investigate."
The department has met with both the school and the family of the pupil.
“We have already conveyed our condolences to the family and the school community, the psychosocial unity team has been dispatched to the school and the family," says Mabona.
