‘Spiritual healer’ to appear in Polokwane court for rape

A self-professed spiritual leader from Polokwane is set to appear in the Maleboho Periodical Court on Tuesday on charges of rape.

The 66-year-old is accused of raping a client who sought help to perform a spiritual healing ritual in April.
He was arrested at Eldorado village on Sunday after the rape survivor revealed her ordeal during treatment for depression.
“According to police reports at this stage, the victim allegedly went to perform a spiritual healing at the suspect's homestead when he asked his clients if there was anyone who needed to perform the steaming ritual, and she volunteered,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba.
“The victim went to the bedroom of the pastor's son wearing only a blanket and found the room covered with smoke when the suspect emerged and started to rape her.
“Afterwards, a 30-year-old victim left the room while wearing the suspect's jacket but never reported the ordeal until she suffered a mental breakdown and was diagnosed with depression after she tried to commit suicide.”
Police investigations are ongoing.
