Springbok Etzebeth ‘cooperating’ with SAHRC

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has launched a probe into alleged racism by the Springbok lock.

This after allegations surfaced on social media accusing Etzebeth and his friends of racially and physically abusing a man following a night out at a pub in Langebaan along the West Coast.


The 27-year-old has played 78 tests for the Springboks.


He took to Facebook to deny the allegations, saying its completely untrue and unfounded, and multiple witnesses can speak to his innocence.


The star rugby player has been included in the 31-man squad heading to Japan for the Rugby World Cup.


The SAHRC’s Guswell Brooks says they met with Etzebeth and his legal team on Thursday.

“They have assured us that they are willing to cooperate. The commission welcomes that, and we will continue with our investigation.”

This while Western Cape police has confirmed that a case of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm is being investigated.


“The case was registered at the Langebaan police. No arrests have been made as yet and investigations continue,” says police spokesperson FC van Wyk.
