Stage 2 load shedding: Eskom to cut lights on Tuesday evening
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Eskom will implement stage 2 load shedding again on Tuesday evening.
This follows delays in returning generating units at the Kusile and Majuba power stations.
Power will be cut between 5pm and 10pm.
The power utility’s spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says the constraints to the grid have been exacerbated by the high winter demand brought about by the colder temperatures.
“The likelihood of load shedding is high for the rest of the week as the power system remains constrained and vulnerable and Eskom will communicate promptly should there be any changes.
“These capacity constraints will continue for the foreseeable future,” Mantshantsha adds.
Breakdowns currently total 15 498MW of capacity, while planned maintenance is 1 273MW of capacity.
Eskom began implementing rolling power cuts over three weeks ago.
