Stage 4 load shedding could cost economy more than R2bn a day - expert

Energy expert Ted Blom says Wednesday's ramped up power outage will cost the economy billions.
This comes after Eskom announced it would implement stage 4 load shedding between 2pm and 10pm on Wednesday.
The power utility cited additional breakdowns of a unit at Medupi and two units at Duvha Power Station, as well as the high winter demand for the constrained grid.
Blom says the impact to residences and businesses will be dire.
"This level of load shedding has been inevitable for a while now given that Eskom has been struggling for a week-and-a-half to satisfy the needs of the economy. It could even possibly go to level 6 at peak time this afternoon, at peak time this afternoon as the demand increases.
"I'm not sure what they are going to do to get us out of this hole because4 it seems to me they are at their wits ends."
He estimates a loss of R2 billion for the economy.
"The impact of the load shedding is quite severe.
"For every day that we are on level 4 load shedding, the cost for the full day is in excess of R4 billion to R5 billion.
He believes the country's energy crisis won't be resolved any time soon.
