Stage 5 load shedding to remain in place on Sunday
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
Stage 5 load shedding will remain in place on Sunday as Eskom continues to battle with a shortage of generation capacity.
The power utility says unusually high demand and breakdowns at the Hendrina, Kendel and Kriel power stations have led its return.
Eskom pushed up the power cuts from stage 4 to stage 5 on Saturday.
"Due to unusually high demand and the breakdown of a generating unit each at Hendrina, Kendal and Kriel power stations, load shedding has unfortunately been escalated to Stage 5 until further notice," says the utility's Sikonathi Mantshantsha.
This comes as the power utility took Koeberg Unit 1 offline on Saturday for planned maintenance and refuelling.
